I had a great time this past weekend with co workers and friends doing the “Making Strides” against Breast Cancer event in Albany NY on Sunday, October 16. This was the first time I have done this event and I am sure it will not be my last.
I’m told that this was one of the biggest crowds to participate since the event began. There were approximately 15,000 people here to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. You can just join and show up on your own, but it’ s more fun to be part of a team. It seems like there is an unwritten contest to see which teams can wear the craziest costumes, all somehow tieing into the color pink. You’ll find pink wigs of all sorts, pink boas, pink tutus, pink hard hats, pink t shirts (of course!), pink tights, pink knee socks, pink pants, pink cowboy hats (good for me!!) and even pink dogs!!
Perhaps the most amazing thing about the day was the weather. On Saturday, it was rainy and cool…and rained Saturday evening into Sunday morning. On Sunday, when we arrived at Washington Park, the sun came out….and the temperature warmed up. For the time we were there and walking the weather was perfect. Later in the afternoon as we drove home, the skies darkened and the rains began again. I think that we had a bit of Divine Intervention presiding over the event.
Even though the event is over, you can still donate to the cause.
