Michelle Mach’s Tiny Tin Challenge

If you have read my blog before, you know I love design challenges..and you know I REALLY love the ones that Michelle Mach hosts.  So when she posted about a “Tiny Tin Challenge,” I thought , “Well, that sounds unique. I think I need to participate.”  That said, this month has been absolutely crazy with an Antique Show, and a week long business trip-and at this point, I’m not sure what I was thinking when I signed up!  So, of course, this is the last night before the challenge and I am furiously finishing my tins. We only had to do one for the challenge, but I felt I needed to do both of them.  I did one as a tribute to Michelle, and the other one is a “vanity” tin for myself. The one on the left is my “vanity” tin.  I took one of my business cards, and used a paper punch to cut out a section that would fit in the tin.  I glued on a couple of faux pearls, and glazed the entire thing with two coats of Mod Podge sparkle for a bit of extra glitz.  The part you can’t see here is that I coated the top with ICE resin, but it’s not quite dry yet (actually it’s really wet since I just poured it!), so I’ll try to take another picture when it is fully dry. The one on the right is called “Michelle Mach Rocks.”  She is definitely my inspiration for this challenge, and the starting point for this tin.  You see, when you sign up for one of Michelle’s challenges, you always receive some lovely little extras with your kit.   Included in the Spring kit was a lovely little paper punch cutout with embossed flowers, and a butterfly silhouette. I just thought it was adorable, and I also thought that I would find a use for it later, so I set it aside for just such a time.  When the tins arrived, I knew I had found a home for it.  I colored the cutout with alcohol inks and lumiere paints.  I  blended in a a bit of eye shadow for shading/darkening, and then covered the entire thing with Mod Podge matte. A scrap of lavendar paper was placed behind the butterfly silhouette, and a purple stone to the center of the large flower.  After that, I nearly ruined it by blobbing purple lumiere around the edge, but decided to use flourite chips in the purple paint to make a rough edge.  Other than a coat of ICE, this one was done! You can see that I ran out of time to do anything more than the tops of the tins, but that’s ok…I’m just happy that I finished!!!  Now, please go take a look at what some of the other creative folks have come up with!!  Thank you Michelle, once again, for hosting this fun event!!!
