Fall and Winter 2012 Trend Report

A chill is in the air, and summers blooms have started to dry and turn brown.  The leaves are morphing into shades of gold , copper, and orange.  It’s time to pack away your summer things, and get ready for Fall.

This fall image includes Pantone’s French Roast, Honey Gold, Tangerine Tango, Ultramarine Green, Bright Chartruese, Olympian Blue, Titanium and Rose Smoke.

Let’s start with Fall’s color palette.  Once again, I’ve turned to the experts at Pantone.  From the Pantone Fall 2012 Color report, “By playing to consumers’ practical side with versatile neutrals, and boosting their confidence with bold, spirited hues, this skillfully balanced palette has something for everyone,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute .”

An inportant color held over from the Spring is Tangerine Tango.   In summer, this color suggests a citrus pop.  In the fall,  it brings to mind brightly colored changing leaves.  Combined with Pantones French Roast and Honey Gold, it creates a beautiful traditional Fall color palette.

I see two of the most important colors for fall in Pantone’s Ultramarine Green and Olympian Blue.  Versions of these two colors (emerald greens and royal blues included) are turning up everywhere for Fall 2012 in fashion magazines and on the runways in nail color, eye color, handbags, shoes, pants, and of course, jewelry!  Another important color from the men’s color pallete, but certainly included in women’s fashions this season, is Rhubarb.  You may have seen references to Oxblood or Bordeaux  in fashion literature.  It’s a deep mahogany/burgundy color.   Throughout the next couple of weeks, Pink Chapeau will be featuring jewelry items in our ebay shop in these colors to accent your fall fashions.

Speaking of fashions, what trends should you be looking for for Fall and Winter 2012?  Romantics are back in a big way.  Lace  is being used in accessories, shoes, and clothing.   Another huge romantic trend is the Baroque look.  I also have seen this referred to as Tapestry.  Think of fabrics in rich brocades.  Look for Pantone’s Honey gold accented with Titanium or traditional black with a flourish.  This set by Avon from 2004, offered this week by Pink Chapeau on Ebay is the perfect accent for the Baroque look.

Leather and Fur are also being featured this fall.  Animal prints  including reptile prints are also back in a big way.  A look at some of this seasons handbags is illustrative of these trends and colors.  If your conscience steers you away from the real thing, “pleather” and faux furs can also be found.

Geometrics are big, and the  pantsuit, a la 60’s “Mad Men” influence, is a key look for the fall.  Look for pantsuits in bold geometrics, or more traditional heathers, and herringbone and tweed.  Also, it terms of silhouettes, the “High Low” dress is another popular trend.

In terms of jewelry as a fashion accessory, once again, statement jewelry is the thing for this season.  Bold metals are popular.  Animal influences will be everywhere.  You can continute to look to Pink Chapeau to keep you right on trend. Find the following offering (and this one!)  this week on Ebay.
